Council Meetings
City of Salem Council meetings are open to the public and are held the First and Third Mondays of each month (except June, July, August, September and November - no meeting on first Monday) at 7:00pm in the municipal building at One New Market Street


The complete permitting process may not include all of the following – contact City for more specific information   

Historic Preservation Commission (Signs or Building Alterations in Historic District: Market Street or Broadway from 3rd to Olive) Meets 3rd Wednesday Prior approval required Jim Smith 935-4036  

Zoning (Combined Planning & Zoning Boards)
Applications for the following: 1) Variances 2) Conditional Use 3) Minor and Major Subdivision 4) Site Plan Review 5)   Sign Permit 6) Hearing at Planning Board - Meets Thursdays after the 3rd Wednesday, except Holidays.  Applications must be in the office at 17 New Market St. 10 days prior to the meeting.   Carol Wright 935-5510
